Ask any true blooded Irish man or woman in America what their favorite holiday is beside Christmas or Thanksgiving, chances are they’ll immediately come out with “St. Patrick’s Day!” So what does this have to do with insurance? You’ll see.

As many of us are aware, there’s certain traditions that coincide with celebrating the life of the patron saint of the Emerald Isle.  The classic corn beef and cabbage is a staple on dinner tables every where, including some Irish soda bread, potatoes, and other fixings.  But  this holiday also has the notion of being surrounded by good drink.  Hopefully if you’re indulging this weekend that you’re of legal drinking age and you’re doing so responsibly.  There’s nothing wrong with having a pint or two of Guinness if you aren’t going anywhere for a while.

But that’s just what we’re getting at- liability.  If you are going to indulge yourself this weekend, make sure that you have a designated driver to accompany you, or simply make sure that you stay in one place for the night with no driving involved.  You know how much your CT auto insurance would go up on a DUI? Trust us, you don’t even want to know the number.

But furthermore, you could not even have a sip of alcohol and yet still be found guilty of some wrong doing.  If you’re hosting a St. Patty’s Day party and serving your guests with beverages from Ireland, then it’s your responsibility to make sure that they either have a d.d., a cab ride, or a couch to sleep on in your basement.  The liability placed upon the party-thrower is significant, so that’s why you need to make sure that everyone’s enjoying themselves in a responsible manner.

So have fun this weekend and celebrate the tradition of Ireland and St. Patrick, we only ask that you do so responsibly.  Paradiso Insurance wishes all of our customers a very happy St. Patrick’s Day!
