Did you know that June is National Fruit and Vegetable Month? To celebrate, we’d like to give thanks to our local farmers who work sun up to sun down to provide our community and surrounding areas with sustainable food.
While shopping at a grocery store may seem more convenient, it’s much better to purchase goods right from the source- the hands of our local farmers.
Not only are you supporting a family over a big corporation, and helping to keep commerce within your local community, but produce and other goods are much fresher from the farm stand than a store.
Here are some great local farms you can support during National Fruit and Vegetable Month:
Valley View Farm
Located right on Orcuttville Road in Stafford Springs, Valley View Farm is family owned and specializes in jellies, jams, animal feed, seeds, vegetables, and other specialty farm products.
Foster Hill Farm
Our friends at Foster Hill Farm specialize in floral plants, tomatoes, peppers, and even care for rescue donkeys on site. They also participate in a variety of local events and help to give back to our community.
Horse Listeners Orchard
This farm has a variety of goods for any occasion. Apples, blueberries, eggs, cider, peaches, cucumbers, squash, you name it. Whatever you need, Horse Listeners Orchard most likely has it fresh in stock. You can visit them on site or at our local Farmers’ Market.
Wright’s Orchard
This farm specializes in different varieties of apples all year round. You can pick them right off the farm, or visit the Wright’s Orchard store for other seasonal specialties such as, pumpkins, cider, corn, squash, and much more.
Kollas Orchard
This is another farm that specializes in apples, honey, and pies. Additionally, it’s family owned and operated, so stop into Kollas Orchard for seasonal favorites!
If you’re looking for a great way to celebrate National Fruit and Vegetable Month, help support our farmers and their families! You won’t regret it.
