Ah, summertime in Connecticut is wonderful! The days are full of sunshine and warmth. Those who are working indoors may feel a tinge of jealousy of those who are laying on the beach enjoying the rays. In fact, productivity in the office may be dropping—as well as morale. Instead of having your employees sulk in their cubes, why not motivate your employees with summer hours?
As a business owner, you may fear losing efficiency and productivity if employees are leaving early and taking days off. However, there are always ways to ensure that the work is getting done. This week, we have three options for you.
#1: Work from Home Day. Telecommuting is an awesome perk, especially during the summer. It will not only spare your employees the beach traffic, but will save them gas and allow them to enjoy the warm weather at home.
#2: Three Day Weekend. This is a BIG PERK! Giving employees a head start on their weekend is great—but everyone should remember that the time must be made up. Employees should have the option to make up two hours from Monday to Thursday. For instance, instead of 9 to 5, hours will be 8 to 6.
#3: Half-Days. Whether you decide to have Half-Day Fridays or allow employees to choose their Half-Day, this is a great way to give employees personal time to enjoy the warm weather with friends and family. Just make sure employees are getting in a little earlier or staying later to make up for loss time! Chances are, they will not mind!
As you can see, there are plenty of ways you can ensure that work is still getting done without sacrificing summer fun for all.
If you are not currently participating in summer hours, that’s fine! It is not too late to start… it is only July! Hold a quick meeting with your staff and surprise them with the great news. You are sure to see lots of smiles appear on their faces—we guarantee it!
