Summer vacation is here, and while the kids may be excited for the break from school, as a parent, you may be a bit stressed, because it can be hard to keep your children occupied all season long.
However, you don’t need to worry. Here are some great summer activities for kids the whole family will enjoy:
Make a science experiment.
Nothing intrigues a young mind more than a fun science experiment. For easy experiments utilizing everyday household items, check out this list created by Mommy Poppins.
Have an indoor camping adventure.
Outdoor camping can be a lot of fun, but if you want to skip the bugs or avoid bad weather, host a camping adventure right in your living room.
You can utilize sheets, blankets, and furniture to create a fort or tent. Next, grab some flashlights, snacks, and take turns telling stories. It’s a great way to unplug from technology and get in touch with your child’s imagination.
Get involved in a local club.
There are a lot clubs kids can join at any age to keep them busy during the day. The YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, and the 4-H Club are popular across the country and offer a variety of extracurricular, leadership, and skill building programs for kids of all ages.
Get volunteering.
This is a summer activity that the kids, and the entire family, can get involved with – volunteering. Whether you take a trip to your community’s local food shelter and volunteer every month, or give back to a cause every week it counts.
Summer activities for kids do not always have to include fun and games. By teaching your kids to volunteer young, they’ll want to continue to give back to others as they get older.
Play or learn a new sport.
Sports are a great way for children to burn out their excess energy, especially if they’re feeling a bit bored. Baseball, soccer, biking, swimming, running, gymnastics, karate are all great activities to partake in the the summer time.
Your town or city may also offer summer recreation programs for children to partake in during the day for a small fee. Check in with your local town officials about the registration process, and be sure that your children are wearing plenty of sunscreen.
Visit the library.
Polish your child’s brain power with a visit to your local library. Libraries are a great place to relax and stay cool when it’s hot out. So, bring your children to pick up books they’d like to read or for free programs they’d like to attend. Even better, many libraries offer summer reading programs children can enroll in to win prizes for their reading efforts.
Just be sure to ask your librarian about it, so you can sign your child up!
Give back.
Looking for a way you and the family can give back? Our friends at AllTheRooms.blog have some awesome suggestions on how you can get involved locally, right in Boston. From fresh park to the Christmas in the city event, there are many ways you and your family can get involved. Check it out here!
Visit an interactive museum or establishment.
Museums are great for anyone to learn from, but children thrive in an environment that provides interaction. Science, art, history, and geographical museums have various exhibitions for children to play and explore in.
A favorite spot in our area is Sturbridge Village, which provides children an insight into New England’s historical past.
These summer activities for kids are just a few ways to keep your children busy. When school’s out, what do you and your family do to keep busy? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
