I had the great pleasure of visiting the unique city of New Orleans, Louisiana a few months back, and while I could go on and on about how fantastic the city was- the character, the food, the music!- today is a special day for all of those individuals not only in the Big Easy, but Christians thoughout the globe as well.
Today marks the traditional festival of Fat Tuesday, or more commonly known as Mardi Gras. It’s basically a giant party that happens every year on the day before Ash Wednesday- known by Catholics throughout the globe as the beginning of Lent. The season of Lent is meant for repentance, prayer, and sacrifice as the Church prepares for the Holy Week of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
Basically the purpose of Mardi Gras is to celebrate and indulge one last time before the Lenten season, and boy, do they do it BIG in New Orleans. While Fat Tuesday is celebrated all over the country and the world, New Orleans is really where the celebration lives and thrives. So if you find yourself on Bourbon Street today, make sure you have a blast, but remember to do it in a safe and responsible manner. Now luckily for you, if you have CT insurance with us at Paradiso Insurance, then you’ll be okay if something were to happen down in the French Quarter. But that doesn’t mean to go nuts! Have fun but be safe! Happy Mardi Gras!
