Credit card over a keyboardWith more and more people doing all of their business and banking online these days, protecting your Internet security is more important than ever. After all, all it takes is one security breech and all of your personal and business information could be gone for good. Don’t leave your personal information vulnerable. Here are three tips for protecting your Internet security you need to take today.

1. Choose Strong and Unique Passwords

Yes, you need to choose passwords that you can remember, but not at the expense of your account security. Choose passwords with combinations of capital and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Make sure that you use unique passwords for every site you visit. Otherwise, if a hacker gets ahold of one of your passwords, he now has access to everything.

2. Set up Double Verification

When double verification is an option, use it. Double verification requires that you not only have your password, but that you also have an alternate code as well. The company might send it to your phone through a text or they may send it to a secondary email address only you know. This extra layer of security ensures that even if a hacker has one of your passwords, he still cannot get logged in as you.

3. Be Choosey with the Information You Give Out

Having the ability to answer questions to retrieve or reset your password if you forget it can be very helpful–both to you and to hackers. If you choose answers that other people can look up, all they have to do is find the answers and they are in. Not only should you not share your personal account information and passwords with anyone you don’t have to, but be careful with sharing the answers to your security questions as well.
