Veterans Day is this weekend and as a way to give back, there are a bunch of free events, discounts, and great deals for those who have served or are currently doing so. Our insurance agency knows our military service members have sacrificed a lot to protect the freedoms of others in this country, and for that we thank them. It’s great to see many businesses and places taking the initiative to do the same.
Free Eats
Many chain and local restaurants will be offering free or discounted meals to Veterans and active service members on November 11, 2017. Proof of service and ID is required to receive these discounts. The following restaurants are offering deals:
- Applebee’s- receive a free meal from a select menu
- Bruegger’s Bagels- receive a free small drip coffee
- Cracker Barrel Old Country Store- receive a free double chocolate fudge cake
- Friendly’s- receive a free breakfast, lunch, or dinner from select menus
- Texas Roadhouse- receive a free lunch from a select menu
- TGI Fridays- from 11AM-2PM, receive a free lunch menu item worth up to $12
Local Attractions
Mystic Aquarium is thanking our Veterans and active service members by them offering free admission with proof of service from November 11th to November 19th. Dependent family members can also receive discounted admission.
The Connecticut Science Center is also offering free admission to Veterans and active service members. Guests and family members can also receive 50% off of admission, as well. This discount runs from November 10th to November 12th.
Old Sturbridge Village is offering Veterans, active military members, and their families free admission to the grounds all day long on Veterans Day. Additionally, there will be special activities honoring our nation’s military. Guests can also get their initials stamped on a free musket ball and watch cannon demonstrations.
The National Park Service is also offering free entrance to any national park across the country on November 11th and 12th in honor of Veterans Day. So, if you’re looking to hike or enjoy a bit of nature with the family, find a national park in your area this weekend. Additionally, many of these parks are historic and add educational value to any trip.
Free Car Wash
Grace for Vets is a non-profit organization that strives to honor those who served or are currently doing so. They work with car wash operations around the country to provide provide Veterans and active military personnel a free car wash every year on November 11th. There are thousands of locations offering free services on Veterans Day, to find a car wash near you, simply search by state.
Free T-Shirts
Our insurance agency is also offering our Veterans and military members free patriotic t-shirts. You can stop into our office during our normal business hours for a t-shirt. We’d also love to thank you personally for your service.
We currently have the shirts in blue and red. Blue and red, not only symbolize our country’s colors, but red stands for our weekly efforts to support R.E.D. Friday. What is R.E.D. Friday? It’s a movement to remember everyone deployed, every Friday. When you wear red on Friday it shows support to our brave men and women who are currently serving our country. We hope you get the chance to visit us in time for Veterans Day.
Free Haircut
Great Clips, a hair cutting chain, is offering Veterans and active military members a free haircut all day long. Simply stop in for a haircut on November 11th and as a Veteran or active military personnel, you’ll get it for free. Great Clips is also offering a deal to its non-military customers, too. When you stop in for a haircut on November 11th, Great Clips will give you a free haircut card you can give to a Veteran or military personnel you know. The card can be redeemed up until December 31, 2017.
Local Events
Many towns and cities hold free events around this time of year in honor of our Veterans and active military members.
In fact, our own Stafford High School is hosting a celebration on November 8th from 8AM to 11AM. You’ll need to RSVP ahead of time, but there will be breakfast, patriotic music, and a field of flags created in front of the school outdoors. The ceremony is open to all Veterans and active service members from all branches of the military.
The UWVC is sponsoring the New York City Veterans Day Parade. If you can attend, it’s free and runs from 11:15AM to 3:30PM on November 11th. This parade is huge and has been a way for the greater public to give thanks to our brave men and women who have served or are currently doing so. Additionally, leading up the the parade, the UWVC holds Veterans Week, a special week dedicated to events, dinners, and celebration for our Veterans and active military members.
Later in the month, Willimantic Elks Lodge #1311 is also hosting a special thank you dinner for all active military personnel and Veterans. The dinner includes baked chicken, roasted vegetables, live music, and special ceremonies. The dinner is being held on November 18th, 2017 at 5PM, and there is no charge for Veterans or active military members.
